2002 Grant Recipients
The 2002 awards given by the Black Rock Arts Foundation were in support of some very exciting artists and projects. Our goals of furthering the installation of interactive and participatory artwork to new communities was fostered in several ways. These are the recipients, and a brief description of their projects:
- Jeremy Lutes, $1,000 grant, for facilitation of exhibiting his project "The Lily Pond", a large, installation of lighted metal lily flowers to be initially installed at Burning Man 2002. Our intention is to assist and challenge this very capable artist to take the next steps in showing his work in new venues.
- Bruka Theatre, $5,000 grant, in support of their ongoing non-profit collaborative and public theatre space, which is the venue for many performances and installations, and which serves as a organizing focus for the arts in the Reno community.
- Jenne Giles, $1,000 grant, for her project "White Noise Shower", an interactive sculpture dealing with media in our lives. A portion of the grant was in addition to her requested amount, in appreciation of her work and to facilitate exhibition of the "White Noise Shower" in other San Francisco venues.
- Roger
Carr, $4,000 grant, in support of the creation and showing his project
"Dances with Lights", an interactive array of lights to be displayed
first at Burning Man, and then at other venues. This installation
was especially exciting as this is Roger's first major art installation.
