Artists Brian Goggin and Dorka Keehn‘s newest piece, “And My Room Still Rocks Like a Boat on the Sea (Caruso’s Dream),” is currently under construction at 55 9th St. in San Francisco. The work is a permanent site-specific artwork commissioned by Avalon Bay (through a request for proposals organized by BRAF) for its new 17-story residential high-rise at 55 Ninth Street. The artists coordinated an “Unveiling Happening” that will take place at the piece on February 23, 2014 at 5:45pm

The event included a number of performances and special guests including:

Musical Performers: Zoltan DiBartolo, Michelle Jasso and Mark Nasser
Aerial Choreographer: Karl Gillick
with a musical world premiere of Il Sogno ad Occhi Aperti di Enrico Caruso by Veronika Krausas

The event is free and open to the public; all are invited. The Artists request that attendees bring a mask and an FM radio. For the adventurous, they suggest wearing early 1900s attire. This happening is outdoors so please dress accordingly.

Says Goggin of the work, “The whole piece is inspired by this moment when the opera star Enrico Caruso was awakened by the Great Calamity of April 18, 1906, while he was staying at the Palace Hotel.  He did not know if he was awake or still dreaming as he was walking to the window to see the results of the ongoing earthquake.”

We’re looking for volunteers to make the event happen, especially as 13 pianos will need to be pushed from the Defenestration installation to Caruso’s Dream! 52 volunteers need to join in! For more details and to offer your help contact info @metaphorm.org.
