We are thrilled to be able to offer a fabulous array of art, experiences, and other wonderful items in the live and silent auctions at the 2012 Artumnal Gathering.

Live Auction

The live auction will take place at 8pm, during the Artumnal Gathering feast of abundance.  If you can’t make it to our dinner and want to place a bid on one of these items, please get in touch with us at artumnal @blackrockarts.org and let us know that you’re interested in placing a proxy bid.

Lot 1:  BRC Flight with Will Roger Peterson

Enjoy the flight of your life soaring high above the bustling sprawl of Black Rock City 2013 with an expert guide. Take a 30 minute spin over the visually spectacular Black Rock Desert and its amazing temporary city with guide Will Roger Peterson.  Will, a founding board member of Black Rock City LLC, the Black Rock Arts Foundation, the Burning Man Project, and the Friends of the Black Rock / High Rock, is extremely knowledgeable about the geography and ecology of the region, as well as the Burning Man festival and Black Rock City. Opening Bid: $400

 

Lot 2: A Journey into Animation: Black Rock to Pixar and Charon

Enjoy a unique, two-part tour of the intersection of Burning Man an animation in the Bay Area:

  • You and up to 7 friends will enjoy lunch and a personal tour of PIXAR animation studios, a world-class hive of creativity. Hosted by PIXAR co-founder and BRAF Advisory Board member Loren Carpenter and PIXAR animator and BRAF Board Member Warren Trezevant (who helped bring the animated elements of CHARON to life).
  • Visit CHARON, the large-scale stroboscopic zoetrope that was the hit of Burning Man 2011. Artist and creator and BRAF Advisory Board Member Peter Hudson will give you a tour of his studio on Treasure Island and, along with Pixar animator Warren Trezevant, provide with you all the ins and outs of creating the animation for CHARON.

Lot 3: Flame Chair by Gregg Fleishman

Artist and architect Gregg Fleishman has created three incredible structures for Burning Man: the Otic Oasis in 2011 and 2012 and the elaborate “pistil” in the 2012 Man Base.  On a smaller scale, his innovative chairs are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (NY), Yale University Art Gallery, and the Art Institute of Chicago.  This is your chance to own one of these wonderful pieces. Opening Bid: $1,900

 

Lot 4: Bay Lights Creative Programing Experience with Leo Villareal

Installation of artist and BRAF Advisory Board Member Leo Villareal’s Bay Lights project is underway.  By March 2013, the North side of the San Francisco Bay Bridge will be covered in over 25,000 energy efficient, white LED lights, creating an array 1.8 miles wide and 500 feet high.  This is your chance to  take part in the programming of this enormous and highly visible light installation. On a mutually-agreed-upon date prior to it’s opening in March 2013, the auction winner and up to 3 friends will join Villareal for an unforgettable evening on San Francisco’s waterfront, creatively impacting the light patterns on the bridge in real time. Opening Bid: $1,000

 

Lot 5: Pre-Playa Art Tour on board the Kazbus

Back by popular demand: BRAF will run a rollicking tour of bay area artists’ studios in the lead-up Burning Man 2013 with BRAF executive director Tomas McCabe and other expert guides. Travel in high playa style in the Kazbus mutant vehicle (courtesy of BRAF Advisory Board member Jennifer Raiser) with fanciful food and drink as you get an exclusive sneak preview of art installations destined for Burning Man.  The tour will take place on a Saturday afternoon in late July.  Past guests on the tour have had a blast touring vibrant art studios and heard from Burning Man artists and their teams, including Michael Christian, Karen Cusolito Sean Orlando, Peter Hudson, Kate Raudenbush, and Zachary Coffin, and event organizers, including Larry Harvey and Crimson Rose.  Bid early – this lot has sold out for the past two years!  Opening price: $700 per person

 

Lot 6: Four Sisters Farmhouse Russian River Weekend

This gorgeous remodeled farmhouse with plentiful amenities (including heated pool and jacuzzi!) can be yours for a long weekend.  Located in the Russian River Valley, the property is both secluded and convenient to a vibrant swath of wine country in northern Sonoma County.  The House accommodates up to 12 guests, depending on sleeping configurations, and is kid-friendly (with a separate loft area with twin beds in addition to three bedrooms).  Good for a three-night rental on any non-holiday weekend in 2013.  More details about the property are available at http://www.foursistersfarmhouse.com/ Opening Bid: $1,300

 

Lot 7: Exclusive Preview of the New Exploratorium at Pier 15

At the intersection of science, education, and interactive art, the Exploratorium has long been a San Francisco landmark for curious people of all ages.  Now, this important cultural institution is expanding and re-locating to pier 15 on San Francisco’s waterfront.  This is the chance for you and up to 9 friends to be the first to see the new space, exhibits, and behind-the-scenes areas with Exploratorium executive director Dennis Bartels.  Your kids could be the envy of all of their classmates!  Opening Bid: $800

 

Lot 8: Temple Altar by David Best

Renowned artist and BRAF Advisory Board member David Best created the first temple for Burning Man in 2000. Since then, the Temple at Burning Man has become a tradition integral to the event. David Best has created an original altar, coming straight to the Artumnal Gathering from an SFMOMA show. We will be displaying this striking and elaborate 22′ tall piece at the event, and it can be yours! Have your own Burning ritual – this piece can be delivered anywhere in the Bay Area or BRAF can help make arrangements for it to be waiting for you on the playa. Value: $20,000

 

Lot 9: Art and Wine Lover’s Paradise Tour

You and seven friends will be VIP guests of the Paradise Ridge winery and Voigt Family Sculpture Foundation, where you’ll receive a tour of the Spirit of the Man sculpture exhibit with its curator, a winery tour, a gourmet lunch, a private barrel and a reserve tasting with the owners and winemakers! Plus, we’ve arranged a rockstar tour bus for the day (donated by BRAF board member Breanna de Geere) to take you from San Francisco to the winery and back! Opening Bid: $2,400

 

Silent Auction

The silent auction will take place in the lobby and art gallery areas of the event from 6pm to 11:30pm, and is open to both party and dinner guests.  We can also make proxy bids on these items. (e-mail artumnal @blackrockarts.org )

 

Sunset Playa Pirate Cruise

Winner of this lot and 7 of their friends will cruise the deep playa for an evening in a pirate ship art car at Burning Man 2013, checking out the art installations and sipping champagne with BRAF Board Member Drea Lester.  The evening will culminate in a bonfire and feast at the farthest point of the playa, near “point 3”, the tip of the trash-fence pentagon. Opening Bid: $1,000

Playa Tour on Fiery Art Car with Will Roger Peterson

Up to three people go for a ferocious ride one evening at Burning Man 2013 with BRAF and Burning Man board member and originator of the DPW Will Roger Peterson. Roam the streets of Black Rock City on his flame effect art car, the Carp Car, and hear the stories of the evolution of the event (the good, the bad and the ugly.)  To take place on an evening early in the Burning Man event week. Opening Bid: $500

 

Radio Set on BMIR

Want to DJ at Burning Man? Winner will get their own 90-minute set on Burning Man Information Radio at Burning Man 2013 or on the Shouting Fire year-round Burning Man radio stream.  Say and play what you want on the air with guidance and technical assistance from a BMIR staff DJ. Opening Bid: $250

 

Playa portrait session with photographer Sidney Erthal

Get ready for your close up! Photographer Sidney Erthal will immortalize you in a beautiful portrait set against the timeless backdrop of the playa. Winner receives a one-hour photo shoot at Burning Man 2013 with a high resolution digital file of 20 edited photos. One hour portrait time and place to be mutually agreed upon prior to August 25, 2013. Portrait can also be scheduled for one hour off-playa in the San Francisco Bay Area to be completed before October 2013. Opening Bid: $350

 

Jewlery by Masha Archer

World-renowned art jeweler Masha Archer’s work has been sold at Sak’s Fifth Avenue, collected by many connoisseurs, and featured in theatrical productions. Take this lovely necklace and pair of earrings home with you!

The necklace is formed from hand painted vintage porcelain rounds from China, c. 1950 with black onyx rondelle spacers and hand-fashioned brass rounds at the end.  The earrings are vintage hand-painted porcelain vases, also from China.  Combined retail value of these pieces is $1,050.

 

Class for Two at the Crucible

Hone your artistic skills! You and a friend can enroll in any of the crucible’s five-week classes in areas such as blacksmithing, glass blowing, fire performance, jewelry making, neon & light making, and many more.
